Description
Noise Orchestra / Loop The Moment is a five-day experimental sound workshop created as part of the 8th edition of the We Do Festival of Contemporary Polish Arts & Culture: Loop the Moment.
During the workshop, we will listen to, record and transform sounds found in the here and now. We will begin with field recording and collecting our own sound material, then use it to create loops, rhythmic structures and experimental compositions.
We will work with modular synthesis in VCV Rack, physical cassette tape and Walkmans. Participants will learn how to build simple patches, process recordings, develop musical structures and respond to each other through improvisation.
Workshop highlights
- Explore field recording and collect sounds from the surrounding environment.
- Transform recorded material into loops, textures and rhythmic structures.
- Learn the basics of modular synthesis using VCV Rack.
- Work with physical cassette tape and Walkmans as analogue sound tools.
- Process recordings and develop them into experimental musical forms.
- Practice improvisation, listening and responding to other participants.
- Build a collective composition from individual ideas and sound material.
Explore questions such as:
- How can everyday sounds become musical material?
- What happens when a sound is repeated, layered or transformed?
- How can individual ideas become part of one collective composition?
Step by step, individual ideas will grow into one shared piece. The workshop will culminate in an improvised live act combining field recording, modular synthesis, noise and analogue tape loops.
The workshop is open both to beginners and to people who already make music and would like to expand their practice. No previous experience with modular synthesis or field recording is required.
What to bring:
Please bring your own laptop, headphones and the free VCV Rack software installed.
