ANIMATION WITHOUT CAMERA

30/08 – 3/09 (Wed-Sun)
11.00 – 15.30
Henie Onstad Kunstsenter

Experience the magic of analog cinema at our Animation Without Camera workshop.

Inspired by the renowned Polish filmmaker Julian Antonisz, Aga Jarząb and Maciej Bończyk, the workshop will explore the technique of direct filmmaking, also known as non-camera animation.

Working directly on 35mm or 16mm film strips, we will create frame-by-frame animations using various methods such as drawing, painting, and collage. These handmade frames will afterwards be digitally captured and edited into captivating loops.

During the workshop, each participant crafts their own animated loops, which are later combined in a mesmerizing “live editing” audiovisual performance on the final day. With superimposed and mixed fragments accompanied by live music, the show becomes a collaborative masterpiece of all workshop attendees.

Immerse yourself in the world of traditional film materials and hands-on experience with 35mm film, allowing you to rediscover the charm of analog cinema. Join us for an unforgettable journey into the realm of analog storytelling and visual exploration.
